FAQ

  1. Can I just walk in and paint pottery? - Yes, and you don't have to book, unless there are more than 4 people who will be coming (we need to include all vistors even non panters to ensure we have space to sit you all). All you have to do is give us a call and tell us the size of your group and the time and date of visit.
  2. Do you have a studio fee, or glazing fee? - No, we decided it was better to give clear pricing for customers, all our pottery is clearly priced and this is the complete price you pay to paint your own pottery.
  3. Are there any extra costs? - Yes, if you want us to paint a commssion for you then we charge extra for our time and skill.
  4. Can you do the writing on the pottery for me? - Yes there is a small charge, however, we can teach you how to write yourself and give you a practice plate to learn on before you write on your pottery, or if you wish us to overwrite any writing you make in pencil on the pottery we usually can do this for free.
  5. Do you sell mugs and plates? - Yes, plus over 100 different types of pottery, incl vases, teapots, money pots.....
  6. Can i get paint off clothes if it spills? - yes you can, we only use small amounts and all paints are lead free, non toxic and water based
  7. What time do you close? - We close at 5.00pm, so please try and get to us before 4.00pm so you have enough time to finish your painting.
  8. How long do I need to paint a pot? - As we all do painting at different speeds and have different size items to paint we can only suggest you allow 1.5 hrs to do a painting session, younger children are faster than older children.
  9. What if I run out time to finish my painting? - No problem, just tell us you wish to come back and finish and we will store your work until you return.
  10. Is it really messy to paint pottery? - Not really, like any activity you need to take some care, but these paints are underglazes, and as such, are much easier to clean off hands and clothes, then any paint, in fact any spillage on clothes, we let dry within minutes and then simply dust off the residue, wash as normal, hands can be washed under the tap in our wash area.
  11. I'm not artistic is it for me? - Yes it is, painting is about having fun & we can show you how to do a few simple techniques and you too will be amazed at what you can actually paint and the level of accuracy you can achieve. We use a many images (or you can bring your own), for you to trace onto a plate and then with our special paint pens, you outline the tracing, then with the paints you colour in the outline, hey presto, a new artist is born, come along and let us explain and show you how easy it is for the non artist.
  12. How long does it take for you to glaze it ready for collection? - We usually have your pottery ready for collection within 3-4 days on average, but it is best to allow 7 days. If your work is needed earleir, then please ask in the shop if it is possible and we can agree a collection date with you.
  13. How long does it take for you to paint a plate for me? - We ask for 2 weeks notice as a rule, however, if you have an urgent need for a faster delivery please contact the shop and see if we can agree a faster delivery, we cannot guarantee faster times, but there are times when this is possible, so please ask.
  14. I want to make baby prints on a plate will anyone help me? - Yes we have staff trained to get good prints from even the squimest baby, so you only have to decide what you want prints on, and what colours you want, we do the rest, while you hold baby.
  15. Can I stop outside your shop to collect? - Yes, if you are just stopping to pop in and collect you can stop outside for a few minutes and we will get your items quickly.
  16. How will I know my pottery is ready to collect? - We ask you to provide us with a mobile telephone number, and then we text you when the pottery is ready, if you do not hear from us within 7 days then please call the studio to confirm pottery ready, it usually is.
  17. Can I put my pottery in the dishwasher? - Occasssional dishwashing may be OK, but it is best to handwash painted pottery, as a dishwasher is very harsh on pottery, and may cause crazing with prolonged use.
  18. Can I put a mug in the microwave? - No, our pottery is made of earthenware and microwaves will make the pottery extremely hot and you could burn your hand when you go to touch a microwaved mug, this is true of all earthenware pottery, even shop bought.
  19. Do you sell refreshments? - Yes we sell all types of coffee, teas, hot chocolate, cold drinks, and small packets of sweets for the children.

Can I bring a cake and food to my party? - You can bring a cake and candles for birthday parties in our party room, but we do not allow any other food on the premises, and we do don't suppy or sell food for parties, however, we do supply Mum and Dad complimentry coffee and teas, and all the children recieve free cold drinks during the party.
  21. Are there places I can take the children to eat nearby? - As we are in the heart of Newmarket, there are many places to eat within a few yards of our shop, incl a coffee  shop opposite us, and Pizza Express at the bottom of Sun Lane, just 2 mins walk away.
  22. Do you accept payment by card? - yes we accept payment by card or cash, we do not accept American Express cards, all others welcome & would prefer not to accept cheques
